My children were helped with the
language barrier and were able to catch
the English language when they came to
the school. I saw a change from the
beginning to the end of their time at
the preschool. They grasped language
and social skills. The preschool helped
them learn how to solve problems and to
work out conflicts when issues rose
among them. My children grew socially
and developed in language while at the
preschool.
I attended the parent workshops and I
learned a lot. I didn’t know how to be
a good parent. The skills I learned and
the ideas that were shared helped me as
an employee and a parent. I applied my
parenting skills in my position as a
parent educator at the preschool.
When my children made the transition
from preschool to kindergarten it was
smooth because of their experience at
the preschool. They were able to fit
into the classroom pretty easily. They
were prepared and not afraid of the big
school. If they had not come to the
preschool the transition would have been
difficult. We would have had a lot of
conflict and they would not have had
language or social skills. Now my
children are doing well academically.
Their teachers have not had any
complaints other than they talk a little
too much.
I value the Lakewood Preschool Program
in the sense that it helped my children
prepare for “Big School”. They were
ready developmentally, socially and
academically. The preschool was early
intervention for later problems, as they
entered school they were prepared and
able to transition. I now understand
the importance of the parent being
involved in the education of the child
for their whole school career.
